Louis XVI Style Erard Upright Piano serial number 14508 - Circa 1875 ![]() A stunning Louis XVI Style Upright piano made by Erard London serial number 14508 being made in the years circa 1875. ![]() Unfortunately we do not have the archives for the pianos made in London, so we can’t really find out much about the history of the piano. But this I can tell you, this piano was not made for just the simple homes and families during the time. ![]() The outside case is made of incredible red Mahogany, with much detailed accuracy of each piece being measured to form and as well for sound. ![]() The bronzes on the case as well, have been made with beautiful designs to further highlight the important work on the case. ![]() Inside the piano, the frame and soundboards have been delicately tropicalized (pianos made for Tropical environments) so we believe that at one time, this piano may have traveled whether to the New Worlds, or to places very humid.! ![]() The inside frame is one that I have not quite come across, having seen quite a few already in my lifetime, this one passes all I have seen. It was made to last a long time, and when we got it, it was not even dusty inside. The previous owners took very well care of it. ![]() There is a steel plate that covers the Pin block are where the tuning pins are, stamped as you can see by what I believe to be a Freemason symbol. I have seen this symbol before but not on a piano. ![]() Art cased pianos was in its high points during this period, most pianoforte makers were hiring well known artists to make special cases to be displayed with in their Galleries or in Special Exhibitions or to fit in the style of their own homes. Great Artists such as Alma Tadema, Kate Faulkner, Alfred Waterhouse, and T.G. Jackson are among a few of these Artists that made Special Art cased pianos ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you have any questions, please contact us.
